The Bicol International Airport (BIA) will finally be operational this year, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced last January 4.

The airport, located at Alobo, Daraga, Albay, has been delayed for 11 years not only because of budgetary issues but also of security concerns. For a number of times, the construction was halted because of the attacks made by the members of the New People’s Army leading to the destruction of equipments and other facilities.

The BIA, which earned the monicker the “Most Scenic Gateway in the Country”, is already 62% done with full completion expected this July 2020.
It is expected that the new airport will serve at least 2 million passengers who will also be treated with the scenic view of Mauon Volcano.
