Form the United Nationalists Alliance (UNA) versus the Liberal Party (LP) in 2016, the fight in Viga, Catanduanes is now between UNA as against the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Incumbent Mayor Bong Tarin stays with UNA and will be contesting against Vice Mayor Jennifer Tuplano of PDP-Laban. Tuplano, whose vote generating power is 2,000 less than Tarin, hopped from the LIP, her 2016 banner.

The seat to be vacated by Tuplano is being coveted by Councilors Cesar Cervantes  and Oming Villanueva. The 2016 topnotcher councilor Cervantes is running under UNA while Villanueva who ranked 5th is an independent candidate.

In the Sangguniang Bayan, 15 hopefuls are aiming for a seat.
