Polangui, Albay Mayor Cherilie Sampal is not running in 2019 leaving the highest elective post in the municipality open. Five are attempting to take over the seat one of them is Bong Sampal who is hoping to convert for himself Cherilie’s votes. Bong Sampal is running under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban). Other contenders to the mayoralty seat are Vice Mayor Herbert Borja of the Kusog Bikolandia (KB), and independent candidates Raul Lim, Andy Mariscotes and Napoleon Reolo. Mariscotes is an incumbent councilor.

In the vice mayoralty race, the seat to be vacated by Borja are being eyed by Councilor Buboy Fernandez (PDP-Laban), and independent candidates Renato Borja and Dexter Salinel.

Twenty are also competing for the Sangguniang Bayan seats. Only three of these are incumbent councilors.
