Caramoran, Catanduanes politics appear to be dominated by women. Is this the rise of the so-called “women power”?
Incumbent Mayor Agnes Popa is seeking reelection under the Nacionalista Party (NP) banner. Challenging her is incumbent Vice Mayor Glenda Aguilar, the standard bearer of the Liberal Party (LP). Other challengers include Edwin Ogerio of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and independent candidate Ma. Luna Pelisco.
The seat to be vacated by Aguilar is being coveted by three more women – Chyrrel Barro of PDP-Laban, Salvacion Isuela of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), and independent candidate Lubella Sanchez.
Twenty-two candidates are likewise eyeing a seat in the Sangguniang Bayan. Four of these are incumbents. The Sangguniang Bayan race is male-dominated as only eight are women.
