Five candidates are aspiring to hold the gubernatorial seat to be vacated Migz Villafuerte of Camarines Sur. These are: Migz younger brother Vicenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte, the current provincial administrator, and is running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDPLBN); incumbent Vice Governor Imelda Papin of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP); Russel Madrid Banes of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC); Ireneo Bongat Jr. and Richard Cabal. Bongat and Cabal are both running as independent candidates.
Luigi has no political experience as an electoral candidate and is expected to ride on the political machine of his father, L-Ray. Whether he can be carried or not remains to be seen. Unfortunately, L-Ray fell a bit from Malacañang’s grace when he stuck with then House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, and his alleged billion-peso Congressional pork was cut. Chances are, Luigi will have to work harder and prove that he deserve the same support the people of Camarines Sur gave to Luis, L-Ray and Migz.

The formidable competitor of Luigi is incumbent Vice Governor Imelda Papin. Unfortunately, Papin drew a flack when she sang in a pro-China MTV in the middle of the Spratly Islands dispute. Will the people of Camarines Sur remember? We do not know. But fisherfolks are already complaining because commercial fishermen who are afraid to go to the West Philippine Sea are already crowding in the Ragay Gulf.
