Incumbent Mayor Alexander Pajarillo of the Municipality of Mercedes, Camarines Norte, is vacating his seat this year. Hence, three filed their candidacies for mayor and these are Leo Benito Angeles, Pepito Lo, and Dante Morales. Lo is running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Morales is under the National Unity Party (NUP) while Angeles is an independent candidate.

Pajarillo, meanwhile, is seeking the vice mayoralty post under the PDP-Laban. He will contend with Jeana Yapyuco of Kusog Bikolandia.

Twenty candidates are likewise vying for seats in the Sangguniang Bayan. Most of the candidates are from the PDP-Laban and the NUP.
