It’s final: Gertrude “Gertie” Batocabe will be replacing her slain husband, Ako Bicol (AKB) CongressmanRodel Batocabe, in the Daraga mayoralty race. This was the decision of the Ako Bicol partylist, and the Batocabe and Duran families as announced by Dennis Batocabe, AKB administrator and brother of slain Congressman Rodel Batocabe.
According to Dennis, they will be discussing with the Commission on elections on the process of replacement. They are hoping that the votes for Rodel will be counted in favor of Gertie.
Gertie’s plunging in the mayoralty race is expected. As Biklish noted earlier, she could use the widow card just like what Cory Aquino and Lenie Robredo did. Whether this will work or not in Daraga still remains to be seen.
