The Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon issued a preventive suspension against Catanduanes Governor, Joseph Cua, for abuse of authority, conduct prejudicial to the best interest of service, dishonesty and grave misconduct. The suspension order has been served last Friday, January 11, 2019, by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office No. 5.
The suspension order stemmed from the complaint filed against Cua and Bato Mayor Eulogio Rodriguez. Allegedly, Cua allowed the construction company of Rodriguez, the ER Construction, the use of a provincial government lot for free and without any authorization from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
The Ombudsman, however, denied the prayer of Rey Mendez, the complainant of the case, for preventive suspension against Roriguez.
Both Cua and Rodriguez are seeking reelection in the provincial government and Bato, respectively, under the Unite Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
