Legazpi City, February 20, 2025 – The Provincial Government of Albay (PGA) has officially announced the postponement of the highly anticipated Magayon Festival 2025, originally scheduled for May, due to the upcoming Midterm Elections on May 12.

The decision aligns with Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution No. 11060, which prohibits government spending and activities that could influence voters during the election period.
According to Dorothy Fernandez Colle, head of the Provincial Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office (PTCAO) – Albay, the festival’s implementation faced challenges due to electoral restrictions.
> “We cannot proceed due to the 45-day no-disbursement rule. We cannot encourage participation without offering incentives.”
With the festival on hold, the PGA is shifting its focus toward enhancing tourism attractions, particularly Lignon Hill, one of Albay’s premier destinations. The provincial government is also continuing efforts to promote Albay’s tourism both locally and internationally.
The Magayon Festival is one of the province’s grandest cultural celebrations, drawing thousands of visitors each year with its vibrant activities, performances, and showcases of Albay’s rich heritage. While no new schedule has been announced, tourism officials remain optimistic about resuming festivities once the election period concludes.
