Vice Mayor Jungie Jaucian officially took over as the acting mayor of Daraga, Albay, on August 27, 2024. This change in leadership follows Mayor Carlwyn Baldo’s surrender to authorities due to charges of two counts of murder.
Jaucian’s assumption of the role is in accordance with Section 46 of Republic Act 7160, the Local Government Code of 1991. To ensure a smooth transition, Jaucian convened a meeting with department heads and the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer, Ma. Cecilia Del Puerto, to gather important updates and address pressing concerns needing immediate action.

Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is expected to announce next week who will temporarily serve as the acting vice mayor of Daraga.
Mayor Baldo’s legal troubles stem from a court-ordered arrest related to the 2018 murder of former Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his police escort, Orlando Diaz.
