2019 Elections: Naga City Candidates

Naga City is known for straight voting. Hence, no other party attempted to contest the ruling Liberal Party (LP) as the it will just be an exercise in futility.

Vice Mayor Nelson Legacion (LP) will attempt to succeed John Bongat along with independent candidate Fortunato Mendoza and Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) standard bearer Luis Ortega.

Councilor Nene De Asis, meanwhile, seeks the vice mayoralty post. Competing with her are two independent candidates, Estrellito Miranda and Felix Riva.

Will there be new faces in the town famous for tilapia and pancit?

Both Mayor Frank Bernaldez and Victorio Ramos are seeking re-election under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) wing. However, they are being challenged by Nonoy Andaya’s candidates — Martin Batacan and Myla Martinez for mayor and vice mayor, respectively. Batacan and Martinez will be running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). Ramos is also being challenged by Junjun Zorilla of Liberal Party and Independent candidate Alvin Sacueza.

In the Sangguniang Bayan, four will be seeking reelection leaving only four seats to new faces.

2019 Elections: Baao, CamSur candidates

Suspended Mayor Melquiades Gaite left a vacancy that is now being coveted by two younger politicians – Jeffrey Besinio and Gerry Brecinio. Besinio will be running under Migz Villafuerte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), while Brecinio will be under Nonoy Andaya’s Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). While there are only two choices, will the rhyming names confuse the voters more with the result not reflecting the people’s will?

The vice mayoralty is also open with Norman Badiola (NPC) and Jose Malazarte (PDP-Laban) set to have a duel in the ballots.

In the councilors’ race, only three of the eight seats are available. The  re-electionist councilors are: Farah Besinio,  Mike Bolalin, Lucy Buena, and Eddie Bayos  who are all under the Nacionalista Party (NP) banner; and Ben Blanquera running under Bicol Saro.

2019 Elections: CamSur Congressional Candidates

Is the Camarines Sur 2019 Congressional election following a plot in the Game of Thrones?

The Andaya Clan has fielded Marissa Andaya and Maribel Andaya-Eusebio under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) banner in the First and Second Districts, respectively. Marissa will replace the third-termer Nonoy while Maribel is challenging Luis Raymund Villafuerte. Luis was the one who had beaten Datu Arroyo, the son of former President and Speaker of the House, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, in the 2016 Congressional race.

The Villafuerte Clan, meanwhile, is aiming to extend its territory by fielding Ernesto Villafuerte Magtuto Jr. under the Nacionalista Party (NP)  in the Partido area. Magtubo is contending the seat with Arnulf Bryan Fuentebella (NPC)

Father and son Luis and Luis Raymund will both run in the Second and Third Congressional Districts, respectively. The elder Luis challenges incumbent Congressman Gabby Bordado who is under the Liberal Party (LP) wing.

Cho Roco, the brother of the late statesman Raul Roco, is also challenging Bordado and is running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

In Rinconada, the open season brought about by the last term of Sal Fortuo is giving a breath of fresh air to the Alfelor Clan. Peachy Alfelor-Moraleda (NPC) is aiming to reclaim the District. She will be competing with the wife of incumbent Congressman Sal Fortuno who has changed her nickname from “Josie” to “Josal” to attract the incumbent’s supporters.
