2019 Elections: Baao, CamSur candidates

Suspended Mayor Melquiades Gaite left a vacancy that is now being coveted by two younger politicians – Jeffrey Besinio and Gerry Brecinio. Besinio will be running under Migz Villafuerte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), while Brecinio will be under Nonoy Andaya’s Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). While there are only two choices, will the rhyming names confuse the voters more with the result not reflecting the people’s will?

The vice mayoralty is also open with Norman Badiola (NPC) and Jose Malazarte (PDP-Laban) set to have a duel in the ballots.

In the councilors’ race, only three of the eight seats are available. The  re-electionist councilors are: Farah Besinio,  Mike Bolalin, Lucy Buena, and Eddie Bayos  who are all under the Nacionalista Party (NP) banner; and Ben Blanquera running under Bicol Saro.

An tataramon asin musikang Bikolnon

Just this Saturday, Jessica Soho in her TV program “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” featured the other ailing languages of the Philippines — Bisaya and Kapampangan. According to her, Bisayan and Kapampangan advocates try to revive their language through music. Hence, the BisRock and the Kapampangan Rock. But while BisRock is already filling the airwaves with its song “Charing”, Kapampangan Rock is just starting to carve its own way in the billboards. Even then, it has already started with the first step. Which reminds me of Patanao Band.

A few years ago, Patanao Band also started to rejuvinate the dying Bicol tongue through music. Igwa pang saro, an ngaran kan grupo ninda “Mga Bicolanos” mala ta igwa man sindang album na koleksiyon ki mga kantang Bikolnon. Siyempre, yaon man diyan an iba pang local bands arog kan Blah. All these, however, were not sustained. Medyo makamurumundo alagad ano an satuyang magiginibo? As if sobrang makasupog kan lenguaheng Bikolnon.

Pero sa totoo lang, sa tatao magdangog, bako man makasupog an lenguahe ta. Our tone, our pronounciation, makes us easier to adopt to foreign tongue. Mala ta kadaklan kan mauurag na mga DJ asin VJ hale sa Bicol. Siring man, kadaklan sa mga graduate ta na wara ning trabaho, maray man an mga puwesto sa mga call centers — asin international clients pa.

Siring man sa musika, an iba tang mga parakanta dai man matawadan an kakayahan. Maski man an sadiri niyatong mga kanta. Siyempre numero uno diyan an “Sarong Bangui”. Yaon man an mga kansiyon nin pagkamoot na nakakatunaw ki matagas na puso. We have also comic songs the latest of those I heard has the following lyrics:

Iyo palan ini an sakong namomotan,
Magayon man kuta alagad baruknitan;
Maray sana akong mabooton na marhay,
Ta kun maisugon rapak an ngurapak.

My whispering spirit says Manny Buita, the longest serving municipal secretary of Baao, loves to sing this to one of his favorite daughters.

Another comic song is “Kudot-kudutan”. Mga Bicolanos has a version of this song some lyrics of which goes:

Kan sadit pa ako, sadit ka pa man
Nagkakawat kita, nin Kudot-kudutan;
Kinudut mo ako, kinudut ta ka man,
An simbag mo sako: Luway-luwaya man.

Haen ka na baya, kakawat kong madaya,
An kudot na matarom sakuyang girumdom;
Haen ka na baya kakawat kong madaya,
An kudut-kudutan hinahanap ko ngonyan.

Kaya lang, siisay pa kaya an nakakadangog kan mga ini? Corni daa an Bikol na tataramon kaya ngani dai nin naghahaloy na Bicol music groups or bands singing Bicol songs. Soon, the songs may just fade with nobody to remember.

An konsolasyon ta na lang igwa ki sarong grupo sa Naga na an ngaran Kabulig Bikol. Grupo ini ki mga parasurat asin artists who try to advocate the use of the Bicol language. But just like any other, they are also plagued with one problem: finances to sustain their activities. Sana igwa man diyan ki marhay an boot na matanyog lamang para sa pagsustinir kan mga aktibidades kan mga grupo na arog kan Kabulig Bikol.
