When I started my work on the Imperials of Albay, many encouraged me to write also on a number of local clans and families. These include the Maronillas who, apparently, are our distant relatives by affinity. But while research works like these are interesting, the availability of resources are not.

But the members of the Benito Clan, unintentionally, showed us how to build patches of history — that is, through  information-sharing. What they did is actually a model in knowledge development. Dakul an natatakot na mag-share ki information for a number of reasons pero an dai ninda aram, when one shares a set of information and another adds what he knows, a new set of information is developed. Bako arog kan pagkaon o ano pa man na bagay. When two kinds of food are set on the table, nothing new is developed. Pag kinaon pa, nawawara na. An inpormasyon, kun dai hihilomon, lalo pang nabibilog sa sarong bagong kaaraman.

The Bicolano vote generally is an opposition vote when it comes to the national elections and an administration vote in the local elections. This is what I found out when I did my paper, “Post-Marcos Elections and The Changing Mentality Behind the Bicolano Vote”. But with the sinking of the Palaka or Partido Lakas-KAMPI and the subsequent hopping of major players to Partido Nacionalista and Partido Liberal, is Bicol now on a stage of realignment?

Unlike the other provinces, Sorsogon is towards geographical consolidation rather than division. It should be noted that in 200_, the Municipalities of Sorsogon and Bacon merged to what is now known as the City of Sorsogon. Hence, no moves to divide the congressional districts of the province occurred.

But while there is geographical consolidation, the case is otherwise in terms of politics. especially in the Second District. The candidates are as follows:

District 1

  • ESCUDERO, SALVADOR III HATOC – NPC
  • HAMOR, JOSE EDWIN BRONDIAL – NP

And as I do so, I accidentally stumbled on this cute presentation of the history of the town of Irosin in Sorsogon. The presentation is in Bikol verse with an English translation. It is composed of 306 stanzas plus an additional seven for the epilogue. The whole presentation can be found here but i took the opportunity to present some selected stanzas below.
